Oracle: HP’s Fusion Embrace Will Drive Demand
By John Hazard

Hewlett-Packard and Oracle on Feb. 13 announced plans to incorporate Oracle’s Fusion middleware into HP’s service-oriented architecture portfolio.

Building on its existing ability to resell Oracle Fusion middleware, HP is planning to provide value-added SOA solutions based on Fusion and a road map to integrate Fusion with OpenView, HP’s enterprise IT management software suite. Additionally, HP and Oracle are planning joint go-to-market activities around SOA transformations, Oracle officials said.

HP and Oracle plan to deliver a complete and fully integrated technology stack that is intended to enable customers to build, deploy and manage SOAs, Oracle officials said.

The goal is to leverage Oracle’s middleware software deployed by HP to help customers extend IT value by automating business processes and integrating disparate data and applications, as well as developing and deploying SOAs, Oracle officials said.

Oracle sees the agreement as a validation of the platform and an opportunity to reach new customers, said John Gawkowski, Oracle’s vice president of business development.

“To see HP adopting and providing solutions on it will drive demand for Oracle software,” he said. “The agreement will drive more demand for fusion through channel partners. Partners that work with both companies will benefit doubly by working with both.”

HP and Oracle intend to work to incorporate Fusion middleware into HP’s SOA-based systems integration services, including a complete life-cycle methodology, risk-managed startup, proof-of-concept services and end-to-end solution capabilities.

HP will train its 6,500 service professionals in the SOA space to support fusion and deliver applications in lifecycle management, services management, monitoring, auditing, analysis, service level agreements and policies.
