HP Unwraps Holiday PCs, Other ProductsDATE: 28-SEP-2006 Hewlett-Packard announced their lineup of holiday products at an event Thursday night, including several that include HD DVD technology. HP unveiled the dv9000t entertainment notebook PC; the HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7600n PC; an HD DVD-ROM drive; the mv2010/2020 Media Vault external NAS drive; the HP Pocket Drive; and the iPaq rx5000, a GPS-enabled PDA.HP also refreshed its PC lines, adding 19- and 22-inch diagonalwidescreen LCD monitors, a HP Notebook QuickDock, and new accessories. HP also said it plans to add a pair of digital entertainment centers in the immediate future, building upon its recent 37-inch MediaSmart connected high-definition TV it launched last month.As retail buyers are currently stocking their own shelves with inventory for the holiday season, OEMs are announcing products months before they ship. HP hasn't announced the actual prices of each product, however. The $1,099 dv9000t entertainment notebook PC uses an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and contains a 17-inch BrightView display with an option for dual lamps. The notebook's key feature is an integrated HDMI port, which allows the input and playback of high-definition content. An HD DVD drive is optional. Likewise, the m7600n desktop Pavilion Media Center PC does contain an HD DVD player. Part of Intel's "Viiv" initiative marrying the TV and consumer-electronics worlds, the desktop also includes a built-in TV tuner, Wi-Fi, a 7.1 surround-sound system, and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. HP's Pocket Hard Drive will ship in either 80- or 120-Gbyte capacities, and connects to a desktop or notebook PC via USB. For more robust external storage, HP announced the 300-Gbyte mv2010 and 500-Gbyte mv2020, a somewhat generic, but networked, RAID 0/1 external storage solution that can expand up to 1.2 terabytes. The mv2010 is available for $349.99 and while the mv2020 is available for $549.99, respectively, at major retailers. Finally, HP announced the iPaq rx5000 Travel Companion, a PDA with integrated GPS and trip-planning software.
